The Trust Fund

The Fund was established in 2006 as an initiative from AAAID to alleviate poverty amongst vulnerable society segments to reinforce its developmental role in rural agricultural communities. This is achieved through mobilization and direction of resources to contribute to increasing productivity and the provision of basic services in rural agricultural communities.

Why The Trust Fund?

  • Provision of funding through revolving finance to low-income groups especially women, small-scale producers and pensioners as a means to increase productivity levels.
  • Provision of support to low-income small-scale farmers to enable them to increase their productivity levels through the introduction of appropriate technologies and the provision of production services.
  • Community development through the provision of social services with focus on education, health and clean drinking water.
  • Conducting of training and capacity building programs for the Small and Medium Enterprise sector.

The Fund’s Operational Strategy:

  • Implementation of work in collaboration with local community organisations and beneficiaries throughout all project phases.
  • Projects should be executed in remote, rural, neglected or conflict affected areas or areas with promising diverse environmental compositions.

Programs Executed by the Fund:

  • Small revolving loans through financing small-scale farmers and producers, especially rural women.
  • Pensioners’ support programs in their capacity as a particularly limited income segment of society.
  • Agricultural production support programs in rain-fed areas through the provision of funding to farmers’ associations. Funding is usually directed towards the support of seed and agricultural operations, including the promulgation of zero tillage agriculture.
  • Provision of basic services and public utility support programs that provide education, health and water services.\

The Fund implements a variety of programs including agriculture, animal breeding, small businesses and vocational workshops in addition to training and capacity building programs associated with technology transfer to small-scale producers. The Fund’s activities have expanded to a number of states in Sudan implementing 30 projects that have delivered value to 1,705 families representing 8,525 beneficiaries.

Funding Sources:

The Fund depends on the contribution of AAAID and other stakeholders including the Ministry of Finance, Saving and Social Development Bank, National Social Security Fund and Kenana Sugar Company in addition to donations from a number of other institutions.

Private, Public and Civil Society Collaboration:

The Fund engages financial and supervisory institutions and relies on civil administration to preserve its resources and ensure the best management of its loans and guarantees. The participation of such institutions guarantees the repayment of loans and increasing the Fund’s resources. In this respect the Fund has signed agreements with the following:

  • Saving and Social Development Bank, June 2007
  • Union of Social Insurance Pensioners’, January 2013
  • Suqya Charity Organisation for managing AAAID’s digging unit
  • Maarif Charity Organisation for the establishment and execution of concrete tanks to provide clean drinking water in water scarce areas.
