His Excellency Mohamed bin Obaid Al Mazrooei, President of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development, received His Excellency Dr. Adama Coulibaly, Resident Representative of the World Bank in Sudan, on 18/7/2018 at his office at the AAAID headquarters in Khartoum.
The visit comes in order to discuss aspects of coordination and cooperation between the two sides in common fields. During the meeting, the work of the Arab Authority was introduced, in addition to its activities, agricultural investments and development programs in Sudan and Arab countries.
For his part, the Resident Representative thanked the President of AAAID for providing the opportunity of the meeting, pointing out that the World Bank’s activity in Sudan is currently limited to providing technical support, stressing that they are keen to expand and increase their activity in Sudan, especially after the lifting of economic sanctions. The meeting also discussed the possibility of co-financing the Kaya Sugar Project in the state of South Darfur as well as cooperation in financing small farmers, as this will improve their economic and social conditions.
The World Bank also stressed the cooperation of the Arab Authority with the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank on the financing of the private sector, as investment in agriculture is the largest tributary of the economy of some Arab countries, and the strategy of reaching food security for others.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to prepare for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties concerning the financing of small farmers and producers’ projects.
