The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) participated in the activities of the 114th session of the Economic and Social Council of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, held from September 2-3, 2024, in Cairo, Egypt. AAAID was represented by Mr. Ali Rashid Alnaqbi, Executive Director of Support Services Activities Sector, on behalf of H.E. Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al-Zaabi, The Chairman of the Board of AAAID.
During the meetings, several topics relevant to AAAID’s work were discussed, including investment in Arab countries, the 2023 Arab Food Security Status Report, follow-up on the implementation of the Arab Program for Sustainable Food Security, follow-up on the implementation of the 2020-2030 Arab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy, follow-up on the implementation of the 2020-2040 Arab Strategy for Sustainable Management of Pastoral Resources, the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, and developments in the Arab Customs Union.
The Economic and Social Council meeting represents a platform for consultation and discussion on Arab economic files. During the meetings, priority topics for joint economic and social development work were proposed in light of the developments and challenges facing Arab countries, including monitoring the issue of Arab food security and its impact on economic and social conditions.
It is worth noting that AAAID’s participation in these meetings is part of its efforts to enhance communication with partners and relevant stakeholders, strengthening Arab food security. The meetings are attended by representatives of member states and specialized Arab organizations formed within the framework of the Arab League. AAAID’s participation also comes as one of the institutions of joint Arab action and as a member of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action.
During the meetings, Mr. Ali Rashid Alnaqbi, AAAID’s representative, met with several officials from Arab countries and heads of participating organizations and institutions. They discussed ways to coordinate on common topics that align with the Authority’s goals and its investment and development nature.
