AAAID participated in the Sudan Investment Forum organized by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Ministry of Investment in collaboration with the Saudi Development Fund and The Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation.
The Forum was held on the 17th -18th of February 2016 under the Patronage of His Excellency Omer Hassan Ahmed Al Bashir – President of the Republic of Sudan and His Highness Ibrahim A. Al Assaf – Minister of Finance in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Heads of various Arab and African financial funds in addition to the Arab businessmen and investors attended the Forum.
The forum aimed to highlight finance and banking developments in the Sudanese economy as well as government reforms to improve the current investment climate. Further, it addressed the challenges facing investors in the agriculture, food processing, mining, oil and gas and free zone sectors. The Forum outlined infrastructure development plans and available private sector investment opportunities in the agricultural, animal resource and fishery sectors.
AAAID participated in the third session by highlighting its investment opportunities in both the agriculture and livestock sectors. AAAID presented a paper titled ‘’ Highlights on AAAID’s agricultural investment experience in Sudan’’ which included its strategic guidelines for the years 2014-2018 and the investment activities within its affiliated companies in Sudan. The paper also stated that AAAID’s has 11 affiliated companies in Sudan, ten of which are established and one currently under establishment. AAAID stated that its total investment in Sudan amounted to USD 551 million out of which USD 225 million are capital contributions, USD 300 million are loans and guarantees and USD 26 million is other funding. The paper mentioned the challenges facing AAAID’s affiliated companies in Sudan and the proposed solutions and met the audience’s acclaim.
